RFD Helping Industry Breathe Easier
Specialist safety product manufacturer RFD has developed a new generation of quick recharge machines for the specialised task of re-filling breathing apparatus units in remote or hazardous work environments.
Ideally suited to mining, remote fire station and chemical industry applications, the new RFD Quick Fill Station is designed for simple and efficient operation and offers a range of benefits including outstanding reliability, increased capacity and quality construction.
A key advantage of the RFD Quick Fill Station is the ability to operate automatically. Making the recharge process almost failsafe, the Quick Fill Station design uses air-leak proof Swagelock fittings and stainless steel high pressure tubing to ensure successful recharging in the most difficult conditions.
The RFD Quick Fill Station has the capacity to recharge four breathing apparatus units at one time. Delivering up to 300BAR in pressure, the RFD station viewed can fill a total of 20sets before the station requires a simple top-up from a compressor.
“Our new quick station is so efficient that up to 20 workers can have a vital breathing apparatus tank recharge in a matter of minutes,” said Martin Dowling, General Manager Technologies, RFD.
“The recharge process is so straightforward that workers don’t even have to remove the breathing apparatus tanks from their backs. They simply ‘hookup’ to the quick charge coupling on the station and can have a recharged air tank in seconds.”
The RFD Quick Fill Station employs a variable cascade system to recharge each tank which uses a number of tanks with variable pressures to progressively equalise the empty recharge tank until full. The station can be custom sized to suit the number of persons on site and to fit specific location and installation requirements. It is powder coated for increased durability and features a dust resistant design.
“We developed the Quick Fill Station in consultation with our clients,” said Martin.
“These types of rapid charge stations are becoming increasingly sought after by OHS, Safety and Operations Managers across a number of industries. They are ideal for underground mining situations where staff can be exposed to long distances of underground travel and in remote locations that don’t have access to tank filling services. The feedback so far has been very positive.”
