Ron Steers Team CruiseCraft to 500 Vessels

The purchase of an immaculate, pre-loved CruiseCraft Resort 6 has pushed the number of boats in Team CruiseCraft past the 500 barrier.

Launched just over two years ago and supported by the Queensland manufacturer of the marque, Team CruiseCraft is an alliance of owners of CruiseCraft boats around Australia. It promotes education and camaraderie between CruiseCraft owners, as well as opportunities for participation in social events and fishing competitions.

With an average of four people, primarily family members, being involved with each CruiseCraft boat, that means more than 2,000 people around Australia are now in Team CruiseCraft which has no joining or membership fees.

And the person who pushed Team CruiseCraft to the magic 500 figure, even “boat tested” Team CruiseCraft before deciding to buy his boat.

That’s because Ron Reid’s career as a wholesaler, retailer and repairer of specialist tools for manufacturing industries and underground mining, demands that he has a faultless understanding of every piece of equipment he deals with – a mistake could have catastrophic results.

He applied the same thinking when deciding on a boat for his family and that even included attending a Team CruiseCraft family fun day picnic “just to see what goes on” before finalising the deal on his family’s boat.

“I grew up on Brisbane’s bayside at Wynnum and for as long as I can remember, I watched CruiseCrafts being launched at the local ramp,” Ron said.

“I still see some of those very same boats which I saw as a kid, being launched today – that in itself makes a serious comment about the quality of CruiseCraft boats.

“My family always has had boats and a love of the bayside – they go hand in hand.”

(What Ron modestly omits to mention is that for many years, he was a star junior footballer in the bayside playing for one of the state’s leading clubs, Wynnum-Manly).
“I looked at a number of quality brands and models before zeroing in on the Resort 6.

“But before committing to buying it in a private sale, our family attended a Team CruiseCraft family day with some friends who also have CruiseCrafts.

“That did it for us – more than 50 CruiseCrafts and 200 people all along the beach having a great time; the factory supporting it, great fun events for adults and kids and it didn’t matter whether you had an older model or a brand new one.

“The kids had a ball that day”.

The kids are Kyle aged 12, Lucas 8 and Zara 6 who along with mother Melinda and Ron, are from Wellington Point on Brisbane’s bayside.

“We saw the Resort 6 as being a very versatile boat and one which could handle the conditions which can blow up quickly on Moreton Bay,” Ron said.

“Being in Team CruiseCraft just added another significant benefit at no cost to us.”

This year Team CruiseCraft participants will gather at various social functions and boat shows around Australia as well as participate in events including the Boyne-Tannum Hook-up near Gladstone, the Moreton Bay Fishing Classic in Brisbane and the Club Marine Trailer Boat Fishing Tournament at Port Stephens.

There are 44 different model CruiseCrafts in Team CruiseCraft – some purchased new, others which have had many different owners over the decades.

They date back to a showroom condition CruiseCraft Rogue from the 1970’s  owned by Dennis Warring-Jones (of course it does help to keep your boat in pristine condition when you are a valued member of staff at the CruiseCraft factory as Dennis is), to the company’s latest range of cruisers, walk-arounds, walk-throughs, cuddy cabins and bow riders.

Team CruiseCraft has its own web site at www.teamcruisecraft.com.au which has sections on how to become involved, forthcoming events, owners and their tips, photo galleries, news from the factory, equipment and other helpful information.

CruiseCraft is a wholly family owned, third generation Australian boat manufacturing business, operating from their Brisbane manufacturing facility. CruiseCraft boats are distributed exclusively through a network of Authorised Dealers throughout Australia and selected international markets
