J&D Rigging Back the Brand & Acquire A Second SANY Crawler
A major upgrade to the Wastewater Treatment Plant by Hunter Water has brought a Sany SCC800C crane to the idyllic Burwood Beach coastal location. The crane is owned by J & D Rigging and is the second Sany crawler crane to be purchased by company owner John Hassell.
Having owned and operated a Sany 100t crawler for three years, John Hassell had no hesitation in returning to James Equipment to purchase a second Sany crawler. With the new Sany 80t crawler acquired it was immediately pressed into service through Structural Cranes in Newcastle.
The first contract was in a Newcastle coal mine assisting with rigging works. The Sany crane was then relocated to the Burwood Beach upgrade.
A major feature of the Sany SCC800C is the quick knock down and set up time. According to Wade Morant of Structural Cranes, the Sany was up and running in 24 hours.
“To shift the Sany crane is quite quick and straightforward,” Wade said. “The crane lifts up on its own jacks and the tracks pull in so the whole structure drives up on a low loader to be within the legal wide load regulations.”
Unlike similar cranes in this class and larger crawlers, the tracks do not have to be removed for transportation.
On site at Burwood Beach, the Sany SCC800C has been used to lift reinforcing rods and form work. Later in the five month contract, the Sany will place shutters into the walls of the treatment ponds.
Crane operator on this project Peter Stuart couldn’t be happier with the performance of the Sany.
“We had never had a Sany crane on a job before,” said Peter. “Now that we have been using the Sany we’re really impressed.”
“This is a beautiful crane to operate. It is good on the slew and very quiet. One of the great things is it is a simple crane to drive. Some cranes are a lot more technical than they need to be, but the appeal of the Sany is its simplicity.”
The Sany SCC800C is a Chinese built crane being distributed in Australia by James Equipment. The Sany brand is quickly establishing itself as a reliable, top performing crane offering Australian contractors and operators great value for money.
“There is a significant place in the Australian market for a crane that is reliable and simple to operate,” said Malcolm Pfrunder, General Manager of James Equipment.
“There can be no better accolade from the market than an operator of the calibre of John Hassell at J & D Rigging who has successfully operated a Sany 100t crawler crane for almost three years and has returned to purchase another Sany.”
“That is the best referral anyone can look for.”
The Sany SCC800C has a Cummins 8.3 litre water cooled diesel engine, Robway lifting gear and Kawasaki hydraulics. All the major components are easy to source, tried and proven in the Australian market. The Sany SCC800C has a maximum hoisting capacity of 80 tonnes. The boom length varies from 13m to 58m.
The upgrade to the Burwood Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant by Hunter Water is designed to increase the capacity of the plant. The existing plant, built in 1992, currently treats an average daily sewerage flow of 44 million litres per day. The $34 million upgrade works comprise the additional processing capacity, a dedicated flush stormwater management system as well as the provision of a recycled water system for on-site use.
Establishing a solid reputation over 15 years, James Equipment has a broad knowledge base of crane engineering and a large network of international suppliers to draw upon. Serving the crane industry right across Australia, James Equipment has an excellent range of new Sany crawler cranes and used cranes in stock from international manufacturers including Demag, Kato, Liebherr, Grove and Kobelco.
