Supplied by crane specialist James Equipment, the refurbished Tadano TR-250M-5 rough terrain crane is now in high demand with lifting requirements spanning boat construction and maintenance to handling dredging equipment.
“The 25 tonne Tadano is based at our head office facility providing support to the Engineering and Marine divisions lifting requirements on vessel repairs & refit projects along with new constructions within the Engineering facility,” said Jamie Bruce, General Manager of Birdon Group.
“Being the only crane on site, the Tadano is frequently called upon for a range of lifting projects and applications around our site. We chose the Rough Terrain because the crane is often expected to perform off the hard stand and on sandy, uneven terrain.”
The Birdon Group began operations in 1977 and historically, the core business has been dredging. This aspect of the company continues to provide significant business opportunities. In the mid 1980’s Marine Repair & Refit facilities were incorporated following a slipway development on the Hastings River.
“We have completed a broad range of vessel projects for both the Royal Australian Navy and Defence Departments along with repairs and maintenance to commercial tugs, dredges, barges, patrol boats and our current new build project – a cruising vessel bound for Sydney Harbour,” said Jamie Bruce.
“Our crane is relied upon for a wide range of lifting requirements in often restricted working sites and platforms. It is the ideal size for hauling equipment in confined spaces and the extra lifting capacity has proven useful in truck transport.”
Tadano is a familiar brand at Birdon Group with the 25 tonne TR-250M-5 crane replacing an old 20 tonne Tadano. The original Tadano crane was purchased for pile driving projects and faithfully served on both marine and dredging projects before its recent retirement.
“Having the extra lifting capacity on our new crane is a blessing and gives us peace of mind when hauling heavy pieces of equipment,” said Jamie Bruce.
“We originally heard of James Equipment through our first Tadano crane purchase and subsequent hire of additional crane equipment on our larger projects. We undertake major dredging work with Parks Victoria with the James Equipment office nearby. Having only taken delivery a month ago, our new crane is already hard at work and settling in well.”
Establishing a solid reputation over 15 years, James Equipment has a broad knowledge base of crane engineering and a large network of international suppliers to draw upon. Serving the crane industry right across Australia, Melbourne-based James Equipment has an excellent range of used cranes in stock from international manufacturers including Demag, Kato, Liebherr, and Kobelco.
