Interclub One of the Strongest Yet

The ‘Interclub’ fishing tournament is such an iconic event that its abbreviated name sets this fishing competition at Port Stephens apart from the rest.  In 2010, the ‘Interclub’ added a new dimension with Nautilus Marine Boat Insurance being added to the event name as the naming rights sponsor.

For Nautilus Marine the timing could not have been better.  The four year sponsorship deal will see the Nautilus Marine name at the head of the tournament when it celebrates the 50 year anniversary in 2012.

For their first year of involvement, the 2010 Nautilus Marine Boat Insurance NSWGFA Interclub will be remembered as one of the strongest events ever.  As usual, the entries were exceptionally strong with 860 anglers competing aboard 191 boats.

The competing boats range in size from a 5m trailerboat all the way through to the giant purpose built game boat Little Audrey, which measures a massive 22m.  Anglers, while predominantly from the local region, also travelled from as far as Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland.

“The annual Interclub event is one of the best supported and most historically important significant game fishing events on the Australian calendar,” said Lyndon Turner, CEO of Nautilus Marine.

“Approaching our fifth anniversary since establishing the Nautilus Marine brand, we are pleased to be able to give something back to the people who helped us get established and now grow rapidly in this business.”

“We are also delighted with our association with the NSWGFA, the anglers and the heavy emphasis on the tag-and-release aspect of the Interclub.  Over the duration of the event, a total of 377 fish were caught, with the majority tagged and released.  This is a wonderful accolade for the game fishing community and the superb conduct of this event.”

For the record, Chris Jolly, skipper of Akouma from the Lake Macquarie Game Fishing Club, won the inaugural Nautilus Marine Boat Insurance Trophy.  This award was struck to be contested by boats insured with Nautilus Marine. The award went to the highest placed tag and release ‘Nautilus Marine’ boat contesting the tournament.

In addition to the Nautilus Marine trophy, Chris also won the trophy for the Champion Tag & Release category for the whole event.

“Following our initial year of involvement with the Interclub, we could not be happier,” said Lyndon Turner.  “The event was well run, safety was paramount and the anglers had a great time.”

“We are already looking forward to returning to Port Stephens in 2011 when the Nautilus Marine Interclub will be even bigger.”
