The new 458 Tournament Console hull is based on the successful 458 Series hull. Allowing full bow to stern access, the helm controls adorn a starboard side console which leaves an impressive amount of fishing room for die hard anglers.
“We wanted to develop a specialist fishing boat using our popular 458 Series hull but with the added space benefits of a side console layout,” said company co-director Leon Savage.
“The 458 Tournament Console is the result and we are greatly encouraged by the feedback from initial inspections by our fishing customers. We are fishing enthusiasts too and this passion reflects in the list of standard features and practical fishing-friendly layout.”
Manoeuvrability and internal fishing space are key benefits behind the profile of the 458 Tournament Console. With a hull length of 4.58 metres and generous beam width of 2.11 metres, the hull is sure to remain solid amid the frantic pace of bay fishing or exploring new estuaries.
While underway, the 17° of deadrise and the underfloor construction strength of Streaker design assures a safe and comfortable ride. Rated to a maximum of 90hp, the hull delivers smooth performance and handling when powered with Yamaha’s popular fuel-injected F60 4-Stroke outboard.
Purposefully designed as an all-rounder for enclosed waters, the 458 Tournament Console is built for both adventures on the bay and the tight manoeuvring required of estuary, lake and river fishing.
Up the front, a raised casting platform with deluxe swivel seat provides the perfect location for casting a lure or quietly navigating the snags with the bow mounted Minn Kota electric trolling motor- a standard feature on the 458 Tournament Console. A look under the casting platform reveals a large, fully plumbed live bait well and inbuilt tackle storage.
The sleek profile of the side console leaves ample access forward and plenty of floor space to port when the fishing action heats up. All useable space on the console has been cleverly utilised with a Lowrance sounder, GME 27 MHz radio, Yamaha Digital instruments, waterproof switches and glove box with drink holders all within reach. A sturdy handrail also doubles as a windscreen support.
Ample freeboard provides the space for a huge 2.1metre lockable rod storage compartment on the port side giving protection for valuable rods and reels. Further storage is found both in numerous underfloor compartments and the unappealing smell of bait can be sensibly confined to twin quarter-mounted transom bait bins.
Fishing preparation is a breeze with a custom-made fibreglass removable bait board mounted on the transom. Stainless steel rod holders and pop-up cleats can be found in the coamings while further rod storage is found in the removable bait board and on the side console unit.
“Fishing involves a lot of preparation and a good fishing boat must be equipped to handle a wide range of conditions, plus store the countless array of fishing equipment and supplies for the day,” explained Leon Savage.
“The 458 Tournament has addressed these issues with an uncluttered and functional layout, heaps of onboard storage plus the little extras like lockable rod locker and forward casting platform with Minn Kota trolling motor. This hull is a safe and proven all-rounder that will deliver outstanding fisher-friendly performance every time.”
