Trask Brothers Both Score Points in F1 Abu Dhabi GP

Both Dave and Bob Trask in their Trask Development Corporation Team F1 boats scored points at the penultimate round of the UIM F1 World Championship staged at Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

Racing under ideal conditions on a 2200 meter circuit, brothers Bob and David Trask got off to a good start in practice. Dave Trask went out in qualifying to lay down the fourth fastest lap time to contest the top 6 shoot out again, while Bob qualified down the list in 15th position.  A total of 22 drivers from all over the world entered the GP.

From the start of the race both David and Bob had to work hard throughout the 50 lap F1 GP to achieve their ultimate placings.  While David had a great start position coming off the dock, he found himself dropping back a couple of places in the spray and excitement of the opening lap.

“On lap nine I was still back in seventh place and having to drive really hard to make up ground while also holding off challengers hot on my transom,” Dave Trask said after the race.

However by lap 15 Dave Trask had taken the number 4 Trask Development Corporation boat up into sixth place and by lap 27 he was in fifth.

“While every driver wants to post a better finish position than they achieve, we are very pleased with the overall outcome with Trask Development Corporation finishing with both boats in the top ten and Dave and I scoring valuable points for the championship,” Bob said.

As an indication of how hard Dave Trask was driving, he posted his fastest lap on lap 49, to become the third fastest driver in the field during the GP.  By the time the chequered flag came out for American Jay Price on the 50th lap, David Trask had moved up to fourth place, missing out on a podium finish by the barest of margins to third placed Thani Al Qamzi.

Back in the field Bob Trask drove well to move from 15th position on the start grid to come across the finish line in ninth position to score points in the Drivers’ Championship for the fourth time in the 2008 championship.

Both Dave and Bob Trask paid credit to race winner Jay Price who not only won the GP of Abu Dhabi, but in doing so was crowned 2008 World UIM F1 Champion.

“Jay is a fitting champion,” Bob Trask said.  “He has a great team and drives hard,” Bob Trask said.

“At various times through the season we have been able to match Jay under race conditions, so we know how close we are to being the best there is,” Dave Trask said.

“But all credit to Jay, we know that we are not that far away in performance, but we still have a bit of work ahead of us to match him for consistency.”

At the completion of seven rounds, David Trask is in fifth position on the Drivers World Championship Points table, Bob Trask is in 15th position.

The next round of the 2008 UIM F1 World Championship is to be contested in Sharjah UAE on December 12th.
