Bob Trask also laid down the fastest lap time of the race, posting a 50.37 second lap. This was almost a full half second faster than reigning World F1 Champion Guido Cappellini, and eventual race winner Scott Gillman.

Elated with their outstanding efforts, the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats sponsored race boat team are also well placed in the constructors championship. Both hulls raced by Bob and David Trask are designed and built in Brisbane by Bob Trask and his GTR Race Boats company.

The GP weekend began badly for Bob Trask in the number 19 Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats race boat. In the vital qualifying session, Bob suffered power steering problems and qualified in nineteenth position in a field of 22 drivers.

“We put in a really big development effort prior to the China round,” Bob said. “This is the first time that the UIM F1 series had raced in China and the course layout looked to be very difficult. To gain an edge, we replicated the circuit layout on our home test waters in Brisbane. So to qualify badly was a huge disappointment.”

Come race time though and the story soon changed. In spite coming off the dock at the tail of the field, Bob worked his way through the pack to come home in fifth position outright.

“We have the hulls and engines to match it with the very best in the world on the international Formula 1 stage,” Bob said.

“My objective is to qualify in the top ten drivers, as David did at China starting from 8th position on the start dock.”

“David had a great race and everyone in the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team is ecstatic that David has taken his first podium finish. Again it proves that our Australian GTR hulls and Australian engine development program is right on the money.”

There are two rounds remaining on the UIM F1` World Championship for powerboats, both to be conducted in the UAE December 8 & 16th. Bob Trask is currently placed in 7th place on the driver’s point score while team member David Trask is just two points ahead in 4th place.
