Trask Asserts Presence On World F1 Tour
Australian Formula 1 powerboat driver has again scored points in UIM F1 Powerboat series with the second round staged in Portugal.

Bringing home his Australian designed and built F1 powerboat in sixth place, Bob Trask has stamped his authority on the world F1 tour at the Portugal Grand Prix. The event held numerous notable achievements for Bob Trask in the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats sponsored race boat.

In spite of qualifying a little way down the field in 13th position (the race attracted 27 starers) Bob Trask not only worked his way to the front of the pack, but finished just 20 seconds and on the same lap as race winner Guido Capellini. Through the race Bob Trask posted the fifth fastest lap time, just .78 of one second behind the fastest lap posted throughout the Grand Prix.

“We had a tough time in qualifying with very rough and windy conditions,” Bob Trask said on landing back in his home town of Brisbane.

“And things didn’t get much easier in the race. I got a great start of the dock and worked my way to fifth place. But I got bashed in the side of the boat by American Jay Price, struggled to keep control and got pushed back to 12th position.”

Through inspired, hard charging driving, Bob Trask went for broke and fought his way back through the field to come home in a very respectable sixth position.

The race proved to be one of the toughest contested. Not only was qualifying a torrid affair, but the race itself saw four boats crash out and a total of ten boats post a DNF.

With two rounds now completed on the world circuit, Bob Trask is certainly making a lot of people sit up and take notice. He currently is placed in 5th position on the table of drivers for the UIM F-1 title.

“The Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team is going very well this season. We have a fourth generation hull working really, really well and our Mercury race engines and racing props are proving to be as strong as anything else out there on the water.”

According to Bob Trask even greater success is not too far away.

“The secret to getting on the podium at Como is to qualify in the top ten. Getting off the start dock and into the first turn to be amongst the lead boats sets us up the rest of the race.”

“My GTR race boat is a world championship capable hull. We just need to get things together better in qualifying and everything else will then fall into place.”

“As an Australian based team we operate at quite a disadvantage. The European teams are able to devote more time to practice sessions and the development their rigs.”

The Portugal GP was won by Italian driver and multi world F1 champion Guido Capellini. American Scott Gillman was second.

The next round of the UIM F-1 powerboat series will be conducted at Lake Como in Italy on Sunday July 16th.

Bob Trask will also contest the next round of the Australian F1 Superboat series to be staged at Newcastle on the weekend of June 10th and 11th.
