David Trask Locks Up Aussie F1 Series
Brisbane based Formula 1 David Trask has wrapped up the Australian Formula 1 Superboat series with a stunning result at the Gold Coast round of the series.

Even with one more round still to be contested, David Trask has an unassailable lead in the drivers’ pointscore.

“Due to our commitment to race the UIM F1 World Championship, the GTR/Trask Development Corporation team will miss the final Australian F1 Superboat round in Sydney,” lead team driver Bob Trask said.

Needing only to finish ahead of arch rival Rhys Coles, to take the series, David Trask realised his dream on the first turn of the first heat when Rhys crashed out of the race.

With Bob Trask taking pole position by 0.70 seconds ahead of brother David Trask, Bob’s #19 boat had a clear and straight run from the start dock to the first turn.

“I was quite confident of being able to score a victory for the team at the Gold Coast,” Bob Trask said.  “While Dave and I are brothers and team mates, we race very hard against one another and expect nothing by way of favours on the race track.”

When the white flag dropped Bob Trask blasted off the dock as quickly as any other driver, but Rhy Coles in position three also had a great start.

“Rhys came out of the blocks hard and squeezed me on the run to the first turn,” David Trask said.  “I could see that it could all get a bit ugly, so I let him take the line and hooked in behind.”

As it turned out David’s decision proved wise.  Bob Trask was first into the turn and had the inside running while Rhys Coles was charging hard on the transom of the GTR/Trask Development Corporation team #19 boat.  Mid way through the turn, Rhys Coles ran across the back of Bob Trask, striking the steering arm on the #19 boat and then executing a spectacular 360 degree barrel roll, landing right way up.

While Rhys Coles’ boat was towed to shore to salvage the boat, Bob Trask charged back to the pits to have the bent steering arm replaced.

Although the pit crewed worked feverishly, Bob missed the re-start, joining the race some five laps down with brother David taking a handsome lead all the way through to the chequered flag for the GTR/Trask Development Corporation team.

In the second heat David Trask took pole position with Bob in fifth position off the dock.  Again David drove the Sea Quest hull hard and fast to lead the pack from start to finish.  Bob Trask finished third outright.

Then in the final heat it was again a Trask benefit with David and Bob posting a 1 – 2 finish.

“This was a great weekend for the GTR/Trask Development Corporation team,” David Trask said.

“I was running a set up that was very close to my UIM F1 World Championship boat.  This is the last hit out for us before racing in China and I feel that we have a very solid and fast set up.  We have made a lot of improvement over the Australian series that can now be applied to our international boats.”

The third member of the GTR/Trask Development Corporation team, Grant Trask also fared very well taking out the Formula 200 title for the weekend.    Posting two first placings and a third, Grant Trask is on line to take out the Australian Formula 2000 title.

“The Formula 2000 class has been getting stronger through the series,” Grant Trask said.

“There are more boats now than at the opening round and then more F2000 boats set to join us next year.  The racing is very competitive because the boats are so even.”

The next round of the Australian F1 Superboat series is scheduled for the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Sydney on October 14th 2007, and the next round of the UIM World F1 Championship will be held at Xian in China on October 5th 2007.
