Taree - It Was a Trask Kind of Weekend
The three-boat strong GTR/Trask Development Corporation race team descended on Taree for the third round of the Australian Formula 1 Superboat series and totally dominated proceedings.

Over the six Formula 1 and Formula 2000 heats contested David, Bob and Grant Trask were on the podium in either first or second position.

Fresh from their exceptional showing on the UIM World F1 series in France, David and Bob Trask showed exactly why they are a force on the world stage. Strong race engines, exceptional race hulls and an aggressive racing style honed on the world’s race circuits have stamped the Trask brothers as a class act.

In qualifying at Taree, David Trask took pole position in the #18 hull, just 0.03 of a second ahead of hard charging older brother Bob Trask in the #19 boat. But it wasn’t without it’s dramas. In practice David sheared a blade off his race prop and had to delve into the inventory of finely tuned racing props to find a fast back up wheel.

“We take the Australian series very seriously“, Bob Trask said. “We grasp the opportunity to race in Australia as a chance to further develop our F1 race rigs. We try to emulate our world F1 boats as best we can here in Australia, so that any development work at circuits like Taree can be adapted to the boats that we have overseas.”

“At Taree we were working with different weight distribution plus some engine development work. We always learn things and we are chasing the one-percenters continuously.”

In heat 1 David and Bob Trask had an all out drag to the first buoy with David holding the advantage of the inside line. David showed an edge in speed and in taking the first turn went on to establish a clear lead which he built on, the further the heat went.

For the second heat with the Trask boats again in pole position one and two, Bob Trask opted for a change in prop to try and wrest the ascendancy back in his favour.

“I have an identical prop as Dave,” Bob said, “but that will only make me as fast. I need to be faster so that I can get around the outside of him.”

The plan sounded fine but out on the water, the first heat scenario was repeated in heats two and three. Throughout the three heats of F1 racing at Taree, David Trask showed a clean transom to his brother and every other F1 boat in the circuit.

“We have got a good set up now,” David Trask commented following his clean sweep at Taree. “We have a real edge in that we test in Australia virtually every week and then race with the best in the world on the UIM F1 World Series.”

“Our engines are strong and reliable, plus our Brisbane built GTR Race hulls have proven themselves to be world class. With the new dates announced for the world series, we can now contest all the rounds on the Australian F1 Superboat series. I have very much set my sights on taking the Australian F1 title for 2007.”

A second member of the Trask family also has his sights set on an Australian title, and that’s Grant Trask who is contesting the F2000 series. Already the reigning F3 champion, Grant has taken the step up to F2000 in 2007 and already has shown great poise and ability.

At Taree Grant took pole position in qualifying and then set about winning the opening two heats in convincing fashion.

While leading the third heat his Mercury race engine dropped power due to a fuel management problem, allowing Peter Evans through to take the win, relegating Grant to a very creditable second position.

The next round of the Australian F1 Superboat series is scheduled for Port Macquarie on July 22nd 2007, and the next round of the UIM World F1 Championship will be held at Xian in China on October 5th 2007.
