Yamaha’s F350- Now the World’s Cleanest Too

Yamaha’s new F350 outboard continues to set international marine benchmarks with the world’s first production 350hp 4-stroke V8 production engine now acknowledged as the world’s cleanest outboard.

Based on emission criteria utilised by the star classification system in Australia and the United States, the 2008 emission results for all outboard manufacturers indicate that Yamaha’s F350 is the first outboard to rate below 10 grams of combined Nitrous Oxide (NOX) and Hydrocarbons (HC) per kilowatt of power, per hour of operation.

Yamaha engineers have raised the standard for all other manufacturers to follow with the F350 achieving a super low 9.171 g/kw-hr for NOX and HC combined. Previously dominated by smaller displacement 4-stroke engines, the title of the cleanest outboard now belongs to the largest with the 5.3 litre V8 Yamaha F350 leading the world on power and emissions.

The F350 is not the only Yamaha outboard to boast ultra-low emission performance with the big displacement 4-stroke F150 engine also shining. This successful 2.6 litre 4 cylinder F150 outboard holds two spots in the top 5 lowest emission EPA data while the legendary F115 4-stroke ranks twice in the top 10 giving Yamaha the majority rule in the clean outboard line-up for 2008. Superior engineering of the Yamaha 4-stroke engines lead to lower emission ratings.

Records tumbled when the 350hp V8 F350 outboard engine hit the market in 2007. The long list of technological advancements including multi-point fuel injection, variable camshaft timing, single electronic throttle control valve and dual in-bank exhaust with power surge chambers takes the F350 beyond the realms of conventional outboard technology.

Engineering a big block V8 into a streamlined and sophisticated marine propulsion package demanded perfection from all corners of the Yamaha development stable. Every ounce of knowledge gathered over the last four decades of outboard manufacturing was then invested into building the F350. The result was pure Yamaha reliability, precision and unequalled performance.

The F350’s ultra clean bill of performance has been passed by the ultra stringent United States Environmental Protection Agency. With large capacity outboards under the constant scrutiny of emission regulatory authorities, the new F350 stands proud as testament to the skill and environmental commitment of Yamaha engineers for cleaner and greener boating.

Yamaha outboards are available through an Australia-wide network of authorised Yamaha outboard dealers.  All Yamaha outboard models are fully backed by a comprehensive two-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Yamaha will extend the warranty to 3 years on 2-Stroke and 4 years on 4-Stroke provided the engine is serviced by an authorised Yamaha dealer.
