Yamaha Tops J.D. Power Satisfaction List

Yamaha has ranked highest in customer satisfaction for Electronic Fuel Injected (EFI) 4-stroke outboards in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Marine Engine Competitive Information Study in the United States.

Performing superbly in the engine reliability category, Yamaha out-scored rival 4-stroke brands in a study based on 9,718 US owners who registered a boat between June 2006 and May 2007.

This stunning customer satisfaction result caps off an impressive run of achievements by an outboard manufacturer with Yamaha also winning its sixth consecutive Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) from the National Marine Manufacturing Association (NMMA®).

Yamaha has been recognised by J.D Power and Associates for the last 5 years and attributes this result to their ongoing investment in customer service infrastructure and programs.

"We take a lot of pride in our outboard products and the quality of our dealer network,” said Brett Hampson, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Marine Products at Yamaha Motor Australia.

“The exact principals of customer service that underscore Yamaha’s achievement in the US are equally applied to the Australian market.”

“Our goal is to continue to provide marine products that exceed the expectations of our customers. This is achieved by building the highest quality product, providing a comprehensive network of dealers to support these products, and be there to support our customers with all of their needs. It’s a philosophy that serves us and our customers well.”

The results of the 2008 Marine Engine Competitive Information study are based on customer satisfaction index scores across seven categories. These are starting ease, quietness at cruise, reliability, fuel economy, shifting smoothness, lack of exhaust fumes and ability of boat to accelerate rapidly.

Eleven brands of outboard, sterndrive and petrol inboard marine engines were included in the study with Yamaha receiving the highest score for customer’s satisfaction in the EFI 4-stroke segment.

“Yamaha has invested considerable resources into improving the quality of customer service,” said Brett Hampson.

“This includes our Technical Academy. This training facility equips all Yamaha service technicians with the right skills to ensure each Yamaha outboard that is serviced at every authorised Yamaha dealer always performs at its best. For Yamaha, reliability and customer service is not an option; it comes standard with every outboard we sell.”

Yamaha outboards are available through an Australia-wide network of authorised Yamaha outboard dealers.  All Yamaha 4-stroke outboards are supported with a full 4-year manufacturer’s warranty and all 2-stroke outboards are backed by a 3 year warranty – *conditions apply.
