Yamaha V8 Powers Sydney - Newcastle Ski Record Challenge
World champion speed skier and Australian champion Lauryn Eagle will be relying on a Yamaha V8 outboard to power her into the record books when she launches her assault on the Sydney to Newcastle and return water ski record.
The existing Sydney to Newcastle water ski record has stood for 21 years at 1 hour and 55 minutes. To complete the round trip Lauryn is aiming for an elapsed time of 3 ½ hours for the 222 kilometre journey.
The tow boat for the record attempt is a Protector 8.5m centre consol powered by a single Yamaha F350 V8 outboard engine. Yamaha is an official sponsor of the Lauryn Eagle record attempt in partnership with Protector Boats. Both are delighted to be supporting Australian talent.
“We agreed to come on board with Lauryn as we very much respect her commitment and her talent,” said Grant Binskin, National Marketing Coordinator for Yamaha.
“And to give her the very best opportunity we have provided our biggest and most powerful outboard, the F350 four stroke model. While Lauryn is racing to beat the clock, she will be doing run record run using a standard, production Yamaha outboard. This is straight out of the box and entirely stock engine.”
Media are welcome to witness the record run by joining Yamaha at Manly (Sydney).
The Lauryn Eagle team is waiting for the optimum weather window and the plan is currently for Lauryn to start her run off Little Manly Wharf at 7:30 am on Monday 18th of May. This date is entirely weather dependant so the team has provided for alternative days of May 19th through to 22nd.
