Adaptability and dependability are key attributes of Yanmar’s new 20.379 litre, 4 valve, in-line 6 cylinder engine that is offered in four power ratings and models depending on the application and duty cycle proposed. The 6AY can produce between 485kW (659mhp) @ 1900rpm to 671kW (911mhp) @ 1940rpm while offering strong performance, low fuel consumption and low emissions.
The versatile 6AY Series is suited to a range of vessels from high-speed planning hulls such as passenger ferries, patrol craft and cray fishing boats to heavy duty displacement type vessels such as fishing trawlers and tug boats. With good acceleration, strong performance and class leading fuel economy, the 6AY Series is expected to be as popular in Australia as it is internationally.
“The 6AY Series has already gained excellent sales and performance records in the Japanese, Middle East and Asian commercial marine markets.” said Power Equipment National Marine Sales Manager, Michael Blair.
“These engines have been chosen for heavy duty applications such as tug boats, inter-island ferries and fishing trawlers- most of which are accumulating in excess of 4000 hours of operation per year. On a recent trip to Asia, we received very positive customer feedback about the durability of the 6AY which was very encouraging for both us and our dealer network. We see some great potential for these well proven models in both re-power and new vessel projects in the regions we look after.”
“The key to the improved performance and efficiency of the 6AY Series is the use a new staggered injection nozzle and patented combustion chamber design named ASSIGN. Developed by Yanmar originally for their large bore, low speed propulsion engines, ASSIGN allows for a very wide rpm range that delivers outstanding fuel consumption.”
The heavy duty 6AY Series comes fully equipped with a heat exchanger and
a non-electronic governor configuration for longevity and ease of maintenance. With an absence of electronics onboard, the simplicity of the 6AY Series has been a major decision making factor for many commercial operators.
The 6AY Series is an IMO certified product with full classification certification to ABS/LR/RINA/NK available if required. A full range of factory approved installation accessories is also available including Yanmar manufactured marine gears.
Purpose-built marine engines like the 6AY Series offer a long list of durability and maintenance advantages. The totally new cylinder block design offers improved rigidity when compared to previous models plus mechanical engine governor control and Yanmar’s own fuel system components further enhance reliability.
The 6AY engine is easy to own with oil and filter replacement intervals specified by Yanmar at the commercial standard of 500 hours. Should an engine overhaul be required, cylinder block inspection ports provide easy access to the connection rod assemblies without the need to remove the engine oil pan or lifting the engine from the mounting foundation
Commercial operators now have a suite of marine diesel power options from the one intelligent engine platform. Perfectly crafted by Yanmar’s marine engineers, the new 6AY Series is the intelligent choice for reliability, performance and fuel economy.
