Yanmar Opens New Lynbrook Facility
Power Equipment, the Australian and Pacific distributor of Yanmar diesel engines, has re-located to a brand new purpose built facility which is now fully operational.
With two years of meticulous planning followed by a tight nine month construction schedule, the new home of Yanmar is an ultra modern, impressive state-of-the-art facility.
Situated on the outer eastern fringe of Melbourne at Lynbrook, the Yanmar facility brings together product warehousing, spare parts and administration all on a single site.
Power Equipment’s Managing Director Allan Foster purchased the 4,000 sqm building site a few years ago with the objective of moving out of their Scoresby facility, the very location where the company was founded in 1990.
While the Scoresby location had served Power Equipment exceptionally well since inception, the rapidly escalating demand for the Yanmar product necessitated that a new HQ be designed and constructed to better handle the present and future demands of customers.
“We not only outgrew our diversified facility at Scoresby,” Allan Foster said, “but we wanted to build a complex that would cater for our future growth and expansion.”
“The new complex is one which we are very proud of. We have achieved far greater efficiencies, a much superior workplace for our employees and the ability to better support and service the Yanmar brand throughout Australia and our Pacific regions.”
As a warehouse to store Yanmar diesel engines the new Lynbrook facility has attributes galore. The lofty warehouse has 1200 pallet spaces for racking engines with entry gained via a high speed roller door. Trucks delivering containers and those collecting freight can pull up on the undercover apron alongside the warehouse entry doors and operate year round, protected from the harsh sun or rain, whatever the weather may deliver.
Power Equipment is much more than simply a conduit for the supply of Yanmar diesel engines. A workshop division has all the latest technology to re-configure engines and undertake heavy duty repair work.
In addition to the workshop service stations, each with its own heavy lift 1 tonne cranes, the shop facilities include spray painting booth, two engine test rooms, welding booth and machine shop. Each work station has oil delivery, coolant lines, air and power, all delivered via underground lines.
Supporting the Yanmar product with an extensive line of parts and accessories is a key reason behind the success of the Yanmar brand in Australia.
Power Equipment has invested heavily in their advanced parts storage and retrieval system. Two state of the art German manufactured ‘Lean Lift’s’ stand 9m tall in the warehouse each with a storage capacity of some 245sqm for less than an 8sqm footprint, and can each store up to 40 tonnes of parts. With the parts contained in the ‘Lean Lift’ integrated in the computerised inventory system, parts retrieval is just a click away on the touch pad.
The administration area is similarly impressive. Clean contemporary lines, high shine polished floors and an inviting ambience makes for an exceptional work place. All the latest high speed internet cabling and computer systems ensure that the sales force and support administrators have one of the most modern work environments to operate from.
The entrance area is welcoming for guests. An array of Yanmar engines lines the showroom area adjacent to the reception desk.
Of course the building design is sympathetic to the needs of the environment. Two 10,000 litre water tanks capture rainwater off the roof and this used to maintain the lawn and garden areas to the front of the property.
