Seawind Chooses Yanmar for New 1250 Model
Large cruising catamarans are purchased by a special breed, a customer who demands high quality, is fastidious about an exceptional finish and one who wants the very best in appointments and equipment. Many catamarans are privately owned while many others end up in the demanding and high usage bare boat charter industry.
Seawind Catamaran, Australia’s biggest cat manufacturer based at Wollongong NSW and recipient of numerous local and international design and manufacturing awards has been catering to this market, both in Australia and internationally, for almost two decades. And in that time, every Seawind sailing catamaran model powered by an inboard engine that has been built, has been powered by Yanmar – every boat but one that is, in virtually 20 years.
So it comes as no surprise that when the new Seawind 1250 model was designed by company founder and MD Richard Ward, it too was specified standard with a pair of Yanmar 3YM30 Saildrive engines and Gori Propellers, a combination that has been well proven on the market leading Seawind 1160 model.
By any yardstick this new 1250 model is a vessel with impressive credentials. The length overall is 12.45m and the beam a generous 6.8m. All up the weight is 8.24 tonnes.
Two alternative layouts, both featuring sumptuous appointments and a mix of outdoor/indoor living, are on offer with the Seawind 1250. Both designs incorporate 3 or 4 double cabins with the galley station in either an ‘up’ or ‘down’ location.
When not under sail, bringing a big boat like the Seawind 1250 up to a mooring, or moving through a marina or enclosed waters requires reliable power and a deft hand at the helm. The Yanmar Sail drive fitted with the Gori 3 blade “overdrive” folding prop is an ideal and proven combination, providing excellent manoeuvring and unmatched fuel economy when motor sailing.
In specifying the Yanmar 3YM30 Sail drive engines and Gori propellers, Richard Ward points to the exceptional track record of the Yanmar engines that he has installed over the years.
“We have experienced great acceptance of the Yanmar brand by our Seawind customers,” said Richard Ward.
“Not only is the Yanmar brand very popular in Australian cruising waters, but most importantly customers can be assured that the global support for Yanmar and Gori Propeller throughout the world is first rate.”
“Beyond the product support, the actual engines themselves are exceptional. When motoring, the lack of smoke, quiet operating noise levels and low fuel usage rate high with Seawind owners.”
While the Yanmar 3YM30 (29mhp) Sail drive has proved itself to be such a strong engine, Richard Ward is now also offering additional power upgrades with the new Sea wind 1250 model and has listed the 3JH5CE (39mhp) and Gori 3 blade folding propeller as an option.
“We are working with Yanmar on this 3JH5 model, a unit which has additional appeal due to the option of the integrated flywheel generator. This combination holds immense appeal.”
As the inboard diesel power of choice across the Seawind Catamaran range, Yanmar continues to deliver clean, efficient and reliable power year after year.
