Yanmar has launched a sophisticated integrated flywheel generator for onboard electricity. This unit suits a range of Yanmar diesel marine engines which can now deliver sought after AC power solutions for boat owners worldwide.
Instead of relying on a separate diesel powered generator set for onboard electricity, boat owners can now specify the new Yanmar KMG65E with a Yanmar diesel for the sustainable, economical and efficient generation of electrical power.
The revolutionary KMG65E is a compact flywheel generator system. This is bolted in-between the bell housing and the gearbox or saildrive. Suitable for Yanmar diesel 39mhp and 54mhp models, the generator can operate either one or two 3kVA power boxes and is capable of providing enough power to run a host of onboard electronics including televisions, air conditioning units, computers and microwaves.
Yanmar’s new flywheel generator puts forward a strong case for boat owners looking for a cost effective and efficient way to deliver sustainable onboard electricity without sacrificing space and weight. Yanmar’s Marine Sales Manager, Michael Blair explains.
“In the past, sailboat operators in need of reliable onboard power have only had a limited choice of options available. This was either a separate generator set package which in many cases was prohibitive due to weight, size or cost restrictions. Alternatively additional high amperage alternators on the propulsion engine, which in itself presented an un- economical method of power generation, came with many associated maintenance problems.”
The new KMG65E provides a neat clean and economical solution which already is creating much interest from clients in both the cruising and racing fraternity.
“The installation and operation is remarkably simple and the uses are endless from a battery charger to a hairdryer and everything in-between. The added bonus is the full generator capacity can be delivered while motor sailing or when moored as is necessary.”
The Yanmar KMG65E flywheel generator can be matched to the 3JH4E (39mhp) or 4JH4-AE (54mhp) series engines and transmissions. The unit itself is only 105mm wide, 21kg in weight and can be rigged to single or dual 230Vac, 50Hz power boxes to deliver 3.2kVA or two times 3.2kVA at maximum output.
“Simple installation and competitive pricing makes the new Yanmar KMG65E an intelligent choice for both the pleasure boat market along with the high utilization charter boat industry, one market that the Yanmar product already is synonymous and has forged a well earned reputation. Many power catamaran owners in the charter industry will also be giving this product some serious consideration as well,” said Michael.
“Its simplicity is its biggest advantage. The compact unit easily bolts onto the flywheel end of the naturally aspirated Yanmar JH4 series engines and is rigged up to single or dual power boxes depending on what the customer needs. Extended sail journeys can now have all the creature comforts of home thanks to Yanmar’s new flywheel generator.”
Power output from the Yanmar KMG65E begins at a minimum engine speed of approximately 800 rpm with peak output power between 2200 and 3200 rpm. Coffee machines and computers can now become a choice for sailboat owners with Yanmar’s new KMG65E flywheel generator.
The complete KMG65E kit includes the generator assembly, the drive assembly for either gear or sail drive, power box, terminal box assembly, panel harness and operation manual.
