While winning his first Twilight Series on aggregate was satisfying, receiving a new Gori Propeller from Power Equipment, distributors of his preferred engine brand Yanmar, was icing on the cake.
“My last 4 yachts have all been fitted with Yanmar engines so you could say I’m a fan of Yanmar,” said Gary.
“My current yacht Barinya uses a 27hp Yanmar 3 cylinder engine which is fitted to a Gori propeller. For me to win the Sandringham Yacht Club Twilight Series and be awarded a new Gori propeller was a fitting ending.”
Yanmar Marine has been a sponsor of the Sandringham Yacht Club Twilight Series for a number of years. Designed to encourage families and younger generation sailors into the club, the Twilight Series has proved to be the perfect racing formula with fun on the water, then a popular dinner event back at the clubhouse.
“The Twilight Series has been a great way to get more people interested in sailing,” said Gary Mulroyan.
“Racing usually starts at around 6pm and finishes a couple of hours later while there is still light. Then everyone heads into the club restaurant for dinner and to socialise. This event has been a big success with families and our sponsors.”
Gary Mulroyan’s yacht ‘Barinya’ is a Cavalier 350 yacht designed by Laurie Davison and built in Sydney by Cavalier Yachts. Bought mainly as a comfortable racing tourer, Barinya is easy to operate and satisfies all of Gary’s family’s boating needs.
“I’ve been involved in race sailing for a long time and my main reason for buying the Cavalier was because my family grew tired of cruising around in racing rigs,” said Gary.
“The Cavalier 350 is more comfortable than my previous yachts while still delivering a solid race speed. Even though Cavalier Yachts specified a Yanmar engine, I would not have considered any other brand. They are just fantastic and I could not recommend them highly enough.”
While Gary’s current Gori propeller is still delivering good performance, it will be exchanged with his new prize Gori as soon as possible.
